Astrocartography and the Power of Place
Don’t have the time or desire to read? Listen here instead. It’s not AI, so it’s basically like listening to a voice memo from me :)
The fleeting mention of astrocartography in a TikTok video over two years ago planted a seed that quickly took root during my 2025 Croatian brain detox, and I couldn’t pass up the chance to leverage the celebratory energy of this Aquarius Full Moon to celebrate what's blossomed!
I only began my astrological learning journey last spring, but last fall, when I was given the opportunity to enroll in an astrocartgraphy certification program taught by Helena Woods, I knew I would regret letting a minor detail like inexperience stop me from trying. It was a risk, and the learning curve was steep at first, but I am so grateful to last year Hannah for betting on herself. After months of full-time learning and practice readings, I passed the certification exam with flying colors!
If this last year has taught me anything, it’s that you’re never “done” learning astrology. This is a lifelong learning path (very exciting for this Gemini rising), and I will continue to increase both the the breadth and depth of my knowledge, but I’m delighted to share that my astrocartography booking page is officially open!
My approach
My astrocartography readings are an extension of The Plan, which I began last fall when I discovered the lack of tools that help the astrologically uninitiated or uninterested translate and leverage the insights in their birth chart into tangible action in their daily lives.
Personally, I have loved learning the “why” behind my chart, learning to do calculations by hand, diving into the Greek and Roman mythology that inspired the planetary archetypes, and memorizing the meaning of each of their dozens of combinations. But the reality is, some people care less about the “why” and more about the “so what do I do about it.”
Coincidentally, that’s also what strategists care about. So, from approximately day 100 - once I started to grasp the “why,” but was still struggling to find resources to help me figure out the “so what” - I have drawn on my strategist background to design a learning and business development journey that focuses on translating insights into action in an approachable and realistic way.
Astrology is a language, and I will always remember how quickly the overwhelm set in when I first came face to face with my natal chart. Fortunately, I had the time and energy to spend learning how to decipher it - certainly not a luxury most people have. That’s why I employ an “explain it to me like I'm 5" approach throughout The Plan, which means that my explanations focus on accessibility over complexity, and simplicity over depth. I love a good metaphor.
The lack of nuance is intentional. You don't hand a 1st grader a chapter book before teaching them the alphabet.
At your consult, I'll meet you at a literacy level that's comfortable for you, so that even if you have no context about astrology or your birth chart, you will be able to understand why I make the recommendations I do.
If you are already at the Boxcar Children or Babysitters Club phase of your learning journey, I’m happy to meet you there, as well. If you’re regularly reading Shakespeare and Victor Hugo? It’s your call, but you might find a reading with a more technically-focused astrocartographer more your speed.
Why do we look to the skies, anyway?
For thousands of years, people have watched the changing skies. Over time, they began to associate the different configurations of celestial bodes with events that happened around them on earth, both relationally (war, peace, the rise and fall of empires…), and environmentally (earthquakes, floods, fires...).
While you can argue correlation vs causation all day (and people do, but that's decidedly not a Boxcar Children level conversation), the patterns associated with different planetary energies and happenings on earth were so regular, they started to be used for predictive purposes.
There are multiple schools of thought about the specific intricacies of these interpretations, but the commonality is that as the solar system goes through its cycles, so, too, does earth.
Take the moon, for example. It makes a complete orbit of the earth every 28 days. Its movement controls the tides and the oceans. The average human body is 60% water. Is it that much of a stretch to consider that the moon's movements in the sky might also affect our bodies, the same way that it affects our earth? In my opinion, it’s less credible to argue that they don’t.
Regardless of whether it's through correlation or causation, the point is that the moon’s cyclical phases often influence the cyclical emotions and actions of people here on earth.
While this theory is understandably harder to prove when it comes to the movements of planets that we can't see (and those that take 250 years to orbit the earth), the point is: if, as the baseline theory of quantum mechanics hypothesizes, everything is energy, it stands to reason that shifting energy shifts the experience of reality.
But that’s enough theory, for the moment.
Orienting the Map
A natal chart is a snapshot of what the sky looked like from the point of view of the place you were born at, the moment you took your first breath. Studying the patterns associated with the configurations in your chart reveals a remarkably accurate picture of the events you are likely to experience throughout your life.
The birth chart is a 1D rendering of a 3D image
Astrocartography (astro*carto*graphy officially, and ACG, for short, which is great, because that’s a long word to type repeatedly) three dimensionalizes the one dimensional birth chart, using your place of birth as the anchor point from which each placement in your chart wheel extends along its respective longitude on the globe.
A baseline ACG map focuses on 11 planetary bodies. The energy of each of these 11 planetary bodies can manifest in four ways: (1) outward directed: physical body and personality, (2) outward directed: career & public image, (3) inward directed: personal life, home situation, family relationships, and (4) inward directed: indicative of the types of people one may meet, and the flavor of those interactions.
This means that even at the first stage of assessing an astrocartography map, there are 44 lines to review. The archetypal meaning of each planet, plus the assessment of how "happy" it is in the constellation it was located in at the time you were born (also called “the condition” of the planet) tells us about what your experiences on or near that planet's line of influence might be.
[This is where I insert my plea to never rely on an AI chatbot to read your map for you, because at best, it will only interpret these 44 lines, and at worst, it will not account for the condition of your natal planets]
Example: Mars
The most common significations of the planet Mars are: drive, fire, passion, masculine energy, sex drive, violence, and combativeness. There are situations where that type of energy is helpful, and situations where it might be detrimental. A professional athlete or extreme sports enthusiast might thrive amidst that concentration of energy, especially the outwardly expressed manifestation, influencing the strength of the athlete's body, or visibility and fame in their sport.
However, someone seeking a relaxing meditation retreat could find it hard to relax in that same environment. Similarly, traveling to the line that indicates what your relationships might be like with other people could lead to conflict with significant others, or negative interactions with the people you encounter.
Sometimes these archetypes manifest literally, rather than metaphorically. I have a friend who lives in LA, directly on the inwardly/home focused Mars line, where she has had to evacuate, or be ready to evacuate due to the threat of wild fires. That’s why the human interpretation is so important. Planets don’t mean just one thing for everyone, it’s all about the full story being told.
Example: Neptune
Alternately, Neptune brings dreamy, ethereal energy. It's associated with Hollywood and movies, escapism and illusion. It can be excellent energy for a spiritual retreat, or a languid beach vacation, but not necessarily the planet you'd call if you needed to be productive, or make clear headed decisions. Given its escapist, foggy energies, people already prone to addiction and/or excess might overdo it on these lines, or have interactions with people who do.
Arbitrary travel to a planetary line does not guarantee a specific outcome. Memorable experiences are often the result of the presence of more than one intervening factor, and an astrocartographer will triangulate the significance of a certain location before making a recommendation.
In places where there is a major storyline in your life just itching to unfold, it might happen no matter where you are, but astrocartography can give us an edge, either by helping to facilitate the occurrence or significance of fortuitous storylines, or by easing the disruption of more challenging ones.
Over the coming weeks and months, I'll be sharing a series of posts that illustrate how astrocartography and the power of place have unfolded throughout my own life.

I’ll leave you with a testimonial from Jenni, one of many I’ve collected over the past few months:
“I highly recommend working with Hannah to explore your travel and lifestyle plans. She puts so much time and care into investigating your chart and shares the information with you in a way that feels accessible, uplifting, and fun. After our consultation I feel much more empowered both in choosing locations for exciting travel and discovering cities to explore for making a major move"
